How To Setup AT&T Call Forwarding: Clara Setup Guide

Set up AT&T call forwarding on iPhone, Android, and landline. Codes to activate, deactivate, and fix conditional and unconditional forwarding.

AT&T gives you two ways to forward calls. Unconditional forwarding sends every call to another number immediately; your phone never rings. Conditional forwarding rings your phone first, and only forwards the call if you don't answer, your line is busy, or you're unreachable.

This guide covers both for iPhone, Android, and AT&T landlines, plus how to turn each one off.

Quick reference: AT&T call forwarding codes

*72 + number

Landline: deactivate forwarding

Replace [number] with the 10-digit number you're forwarding to, no dashes or spaces. Press call after each code and wait for the confirmation tone or message before hanging up.

AT&T doesn't publish its own set of wireless forwarding codes. Its network runs on the standard GSM codes shown above, the same codes used across most GSM carriers worldwide.

Before you start: turn off Live Voicemail (iPhone only)

If you're on an iPhone, check this first. Apple's Live Voicemail feature can intercept an unanswered call before AT&T's network-level "no answer" timer ever triggers, which stops conditional forwarding from firing at all. This is one of the most common reasons AT&T call forwarding looks broken when it isn't.

To turn it off:

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Apps, then scroll to Phone

  3. Find Live Voicemail and toggle it off

Android users don't have this feature and can skip this step.

What number to forward to

Before dialing any codes, know the number you're forwarding to. If you're forwarding your business line to Clara AI, your dedicated Clara number is listed at the top of your Clara AI dashboard.

How to forward calls on AT&T (conditional forwarding)

Conditional forwarding is the setup most businesses want: your phone still rings, and only unanswered, busy, or unreachable calls get forwarded. This is what replaces a missed-call voicemail with a live answer.

To set it up, dial each of these three codes separately from your keypad, followed by the call button:

  1. **61* + your forwarding number + # (no answer)

  2. **67* + your forwarding number + # (busy)

  3. **62* + your forwarding number + # (unreachable)

Wait for the confirmation message after each one before dialing the next.

Turning off conditional call forwarding

Dial each of these, pressing call after each:

  1. ##61#

  2. ##67#

  3. ##62#

How to set up unconditional call forwarding on AT&T

Unconditional forwarding sends every incoming call to another number immediately. Your AT&T line never rings.

Dial **21* followed by your forwarding number, then #, then press call. Wait for the confirmation message.

AT&T deactivate call forwarding (unconditional)

Dial ##21# and press call. This turns off all-call forwarding and returns calls to your AT&T line.

AT&T call forwarding from a landline

AT&T landline forwarding uses different codes than AT&T wireless, since it runs on the older telephone network standard instead of GSM.

Standard call forwarding:

  • Activate: dial *72, then the number you want to forward to, then wait for the confirmation tone

  • Deactivate: dial *73 and wait for the confirmation tone

Select call forwarding, which forwards only specific numbers you choose instead of every call:

  • Activate: dial *63 and follow the voice prompts to add numbers

  • Deactivate: dial *83 and follow the prompts. You'll be asked whether to save your selected-number list or delete it.

Local and long-distance charges may apply to forwarded calls on a landline, depending on your plan.

Checking if call forwarding is on

To check unconditional forwarding status, dial *#21# and press call.

To check conditional forwarding status (no answer, busy, unreachable), dial *#004# and press call. AT&T will return what's currently set for each condition.

Troubleshooting AT&T call forwarding

No confirmation tone or message. Confirm you dialed the full code correctly, including both asterisks in double-star codes. A typo in the forwarding number is the most common cause.

Conditional forwarding worked before and stopped. Live Voicemail can re-enable itself after an iOS update. Check Settings > Apps > Phone > Live Voicemail again.

Forwarding reset on its own. Plan changes, device upgrades, SIM swaps, and number ports can all clear forwarding settings on AT&T's side. Re-enter the codes after any account change.

Codes return an error. Some AT&T plans, particularly certain prepaid plans, don't include conditional forwarding. Contact AT&T support to confirm what your plan supports.

Forward your AT&T line to Clara AI

Once conditional forwarding is set up, every call you can't personally answer goes to Clara AI receptionist instead of a voicemail box. Clara answers, books the appointment, and puts it straight into your scheduling software, so a missed call during a busy treatment day doesn't turn into a lost booking
